Tweeting for the Holidays

Halloween is right around the corner. How are your social media profiles gearing up for the holidays?

There’s no better to come up with interesting material than during the holidays, no matter which one it might be—Halloween, Christmas, Chanukah or New Years. With each creative hashtag or relevant Tweet, you have the possibility to bring more light to your brand, gain new followers and reveal something to your loyal clientele that they might not have seen before.

Regular interaction on social media is difficult. If you haven’t figured that out by now you’re either a social media genius or you don’t do it. Everyone goes through lulls where they can’t figure out what to say and how to interact with their customers.

Here are five ways to increase your social media presence during the holidays:

Schedule posts

Find out when most people are tweeting during the holidays. The holidays throw everything out of whack, including people’s regular schedule. If you take advantage of this trend you can make a serious dent in your social media. Schedule posts around the time that people are most active on Twitter. For instance, if people are Tweeting about what they got for Christmas in the morning, schedule a post about one of your products. If people Tweet about candy on Halloween night, Tweet something original about how your product would be a great alternative to candy.

Use original hashtags

Creating unique and original hashtags are hard to do for a number of reasons. First of all, you have to come up with ones that will engage your clientele. Furthermore, if you really want to do well, you need to get those Tweets beyond your general audience and into the mass spectrum. Bigger companies can do this fairly easily, considering they have a large audience, but smaller companies might have a hard time doing this. When in doubt, find trending hashtags and use those. They will also work.

Retweet other posts

Original content from your Twitter is great, but your followers like to see that you actively engage other people, especially people that tweet at you. For instance, if you say, “What are you dressing up as for Halloween?” you should retweet everyone that responds to your Tweet. Even better, if you have room to respond, try to think of something creative to say.

Don’t exclude holidays

Regardless of what denomination you believe in, if you are religious, don’t skip out on holidays. If you are Christian, make sure to send out a “Happy Hanukkah” for all of your Jewish followers. Not only do you have a better chance of getting retweeted, it looks good for your company.

Have fun!

It might be a professional account, but don’t be afraid to let loose a little bit and have fun with it. People always enjoy humor, especially if it is related to the holidays. Holidays are supposed to be fun, and if you’re not in on the action, you’re not capitalizing.

Holidays provide you with the perfect opportunity to gain more followers without over exerting yourself. Make sure to capitalize on it, because after New Years it’s back to normal Tweeting.
